The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Review

Image
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Review “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is an emotionally charged, uncomfortable at times, magnificent piece of filmmaking, disguised as a weekly television show. It follows the endeavors of two long-time sidekick characters of the Marvel comics world, the Falcon (played by Anthony Mackie) and The Winter Soldier (played by Sebastian Stan).  We see the same level of iconic shots we’ve grown accustomed to over the past 13 years of Marvel films in this adventure. Characters sticking the landing in the superhero poses, characters jumping out of planes, being thrown from moving vehicles and of course, being slammed through walls. But it also explores the human side of being a superhuman, in very clever and intriguing ways. We first met Falcon and The Winter Soldier back in April 2014 in the Marvel film “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Since then, we’ve seen countless adventures with these two flanking the side of Captain America (played masterfully

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Review: Episode 5 - "Truth"

Image
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier In this week’s emotionally charged penultimate installment of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, Sam Wilson (The Falcon) tackles topics bigger than any villain he’s ever faced as an Avenger.  As the real-life world we know grapples with race relations and the use of excessive force by people in powerful positions, Marvel’s “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” addresses it in their unique way as well.  The GamesRadar says this about episode five, “Truth”, “ By bringing those deeper questions of race and America’s re-written history back to the forefront…” They continue with  “ ‘Truth’… delivers perhaps the best Falcon and the Winter Soldier to date.” A sentiment I wholeheartedly agree with. Sam and Bucky (The Winter Soldier) confront John Walker after the events of last week’s shocking episode in which he used the shield of Captain America to bludgeon a surrendering foe to death in front of an enormous crowd of on-lookers. The actions of John were c

Football Memories: Looking back my first middle school football game

It was one of those days on the edge of summer and fall, where summer doesn’t quite want to let its grip or control over the weather go. As I looked up, the blue sky was sparsely filled with huge white, fluffy clouds. As I stared at them, nearly daydreaming, I thought to myself just how soft it would be to lay among them. “ HUT ONE! ” rang out in my ears and I was pulled back into the moment. I was about to be handed the football, the rock, the ol’ pigskin, for the first time ever in a real-life game. I was 13, 5-foot nothing, and a whopping 90 pounds soaking wet. I had never been tackled before, not for real anyway. Sure I’d played tons of games with no pads and been hit in those and, sure, I’d been tackled in practice, but that was always teammates and friends, not the “enemy.” “ HUT ONE! ” rang out again and my heart started to beat louder than a bass drum in a marching band. I knew the next “hut go” was the cue for my life to change forever and I would be running to preserve my exi

One Dose Down, One To Go

One Dose Down, One To Go   I'm one of those lucky few, the able-bodied, no preexisting condition having, American humans who were able to get the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Let me walk you through how that experience went and what that day entailed. To say scheduling the appointment time was easy would be selling the experience short. Calling it "easy" would be describing it more difficultly than it was. It was effortless, unchallenging, and straightforward. In total, to get from the health department home page to the completion of the process and confirmation of my appointment was a total of about 6 clicks of the mouse. In the middle of those clicks was a short information page where I had to share my name, age, date of birth, as well as my insurance information (though if you didn't have insurance, you could skip that last part). I picked a day and a time and I was done and scheduled. I've had more issues ordering gifts off Amazon than I did scheduling
